A Maple Ridge woman has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her husband on Tuesday.
Leah Marie Florence has been remanded in custody until Nov. 17 following a court appearance Thursday.
The 42-year-old woman was arrested at her home on Ospring Street in lower Hammond Tuesday around 9:45 p.m. by police who were called to the property to deal with a couple fighting.
Officers found her husband Andrew Milne in medical distress.
Paramedics took the 50-year-old to Ridge Meadows Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sgt. Peter Thiessen, with the RCMP Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said police have evidence to support a charge of second-degree murder.
“We believe she was involved in her husband’s death.”
RCMP will not comment on Milne’s injuries or if a weapon was involved.
A family member who lived above the couple made the initial call to police.
Thiessen said the man’s wife also required medical attention for “significant injuries.”
Court records show she has no criminal record while her husband has faced several charges since 2001.
Milne was placed under a peace bond in November 2001 but breached the order several times in 2002 and 2003.
Such an order is issued under Section 810 of the Criminal Code if a person fears on reasonable grounds that another person will harm him, his spouse or children.
