RCMP are releasing more details on the body discovered at the waterfront in Prince Rupert yesterday.
The body of a 55-year old caucasian male, a resident of Prince Rupert, was discovered near the Lightering Dock along the shore of Prince Rupert harbour at approximately noon on October 28. The man has been identified and next of kin has been notified, but RCMP are not releasing the name.
"It is one of those situations where, to protect the family and give them privacy during this time, we are not releasing the name," said Staff Sergeant Jim Vardy.
The Prince Rupert RCMP, the Forensic Identification Section and the B.C. Coroner's Service attended the scene and, following an investigation, determined that foul play was not involved in this incident.
"It wasn't criminal in nature, just one of those unfortunate situations," said Vardy.
While there were rumours that the individual was found inside of a vehicle, Prince Rupert RCMP have said that was not the case. A vehicle was removed from the scene and the RCMP say the man was associated with that vehicle.
