Have you ever wished you could see your own lab or diagnostic imaging results?

Interior Health has introduced a system that will allow you to view results from lab work, X-rays, scans and ultrasounds plus certain upcoming appointments, recent hospital visit history and the ability to update your contact information.

My Health Portal was introduced a year ago and more than 24,000 patients have enrolled.

The enrolment process takes a bit of time, as you must first go in person to your local health centre or hospital to show ID and add your email to your patient record. In Castlegar, this can be done at the Castlegar Health Centre between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The front desk can help you, or if you have lab work to do, a technician at the lab can help you get set up.

The next step is to go to interiorhealth.ca/MyHealthPortal.

From there, click on the "request to enroll" button.

You will then verify you have already had your email address entered into your health record. Make sure you read the fine print as it explains that you will be sent an email with a link to complete your enrolment and that you only have two hours from the time you receive the email to complete the process.

The next step is to fill out a form — you will need to know your health care number.

You will then receive an email with a temporary password link. After you click the link, you will need to choose a logon ID, password and select security questions. Then you are ready to go.

The site is pretty easy to navigate through with selections such as health record, appointments, profile, visit history, results, allergies and conditions and reports.

You also have the option of allowing other individuals such as family or caregivers access to your information.
