PHOTO: Castlegar food bank volunteers prepare Christmas hampers

Castlegar
Castlegar's Harvest Community Food Bank and Drop In Center volunteers were hard at work putting together Christmas hampers on Friday. Thanks to a strong community response on Thursday, the food bank is no longer short on donations for the hampers. After word spread that the food bank didn't have enough, Castlegar residents stepped up and brought food, toys and cash donations to the Sandman Hotel, where volunteers were working to sort everything on Thursday. While there is now enough for the hampers, Dec McIntosh, food bank coordinator, says donations are still welcome, as the food bank provides an average of 50 hampers a week, offers meals three times a week and runs a shelter throughout all 12 months of the year.
