A transmission circuit failure has left thousands in Abbotsford without power on Wednesday afternoon.

According to BC Hydro, at approximately 1:34 p.m. on Wednesday a transmission circuit failure occurred leaving many parts of Abbotsford powerless.

About 1500 customers west of Sumas Way, east of Gladwin Road and south of the Trans Canada Highway, along with 573 customers east of Riverside Road and south of Parallel Road all lost power at that time.

At 1:48 p.m., about 113 customers east of McKenzie Road, south of Fraser Street, north of King Road and west of Eleanor avenue all lost power.

In addition to Abbotsford, much of Chilliwack has lost power due to the transmission circuit failure.

BC Hydro has said that crews are working on restoring power to those affected, but there is no timetable for power to return.
