A driver is charged with driving too fast for conditions after a the semi tractor and trailer he drove collided with the centre median near Nanoose Bay's Petro-Canada station.
Traffic was backed up in either direction for about two hours as a result of the accident occurring at approximately 2 p.m. Thursday.
Const. Mike Infanti of Central Island Traffic Division said the entire rig and trailer ended up in a northbound lane of Hwy. 19 though it was travelling southbound to Nanaimo when the accident happened.
"He lost lots of fuel," Infanti said noting the collision occurred on a rain slicked highway near Morello Road and the Nanoose Creek Campground. The truck finally came to stop a considerable ways north of the location.
"He lost control of the trailer which caused him to lose control of the truck," he said. "There were minor injuries to the driver who was taken to the hospital in Nanaimo."
By 4:30 p.m. flow of traffic along the highway had resumed.
