B.C. debt pooler and Chilliwack resident subject of many lawsuits
In the wake of The Province’s investigation into the business practices of former debt manager Don Antle, new people are coming forward to police to share complaints.
In recent years, Antle operated debt consolidation companies in Chilliwack, including Options Credit Services Canada and Debt Works Financial. Antle has been the subject of dozens of complaints and lawsuits, but is not facing any criminal charges.
For one Chilliwack woman, seeing Antle’s face on the front page of The Province this week brought on mixed emotions. She was happy to see the story out there. But Rebecca B., who asked that her full name not be published, also said the sight of him “made me sick.”
“I’m disgusted by him,” said the mother of four, who claims her family lost thousands when they trusted Antle to help them manage their debt. “He’s caused us a lot of financial burden. We’re trying to penny-pinch and pay the bills.”
Scott Hannah, president of the non-profit Credit Counselling Society, told The Province: “While we are pleased that a criminal investigation file has been opened to look into the past activities of Don Antle and Options Credit Services, the emotional and financial damage he has caused his past clients may never be repaired.”
The Vancouver Police Department has mounted a fraud investigation, and police confirmed that since Antle’s story appeared in The Province, more people have contacted investigators this week to share information about him.
