UPDATE: Man dead after shooting by Robert Burnaby Park Sunday night

A man is dead after being shot several times near Robert Burnaby Park in South Burnaby Sunday night.

Just after 10:30 p.m.  Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of shots fired around Second Street and 19th Avenue.

The victim was found on the street suffering from gunshot wounds and was rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital in grave condition where he was later pronounced dead.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in to take conduct of the case.

IHIT Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound said the victim has been identified as a 46-year-old man from Alberta who is known to police.

“While this investigation is in the very early stages IHIT can confirm that evidence gathered thus far suggests this to be a targeted attack,” said Pound in a press release.

On Monday, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS), IHIT investigators and Burnaby RCMP were to continue working at the crime scene and identify witnesses.
