Peach Festival Parade delights particpants and crowd

Moments before their first appearance at this year's Penticton Peach Festival parade on Aug. 9, newly crowned Miss Penticton Shauna Morrow admitted she was pretty excited and a little bit overwhelmed.

I"m really happy but I'm still kind of in disbelief," said Morrow, who was Miss Penticton Speedway. "It still hasn't sunk in yet."

Morrow was chosen on Aug. 8 during a ceremony held at the Cleland Theatre.

She was joined on the PeachFest float by princesses Allison Smith (Miss Downtown Penticton Association)  and Sinclaire Lovett (Miss Loco Landing).

Morrow said that as a lifetime resident of Penticton, she's proud that she'll have the opportunity to represent the city at a variety of events during her reign.

"I'm also grateful for the whole pageant experience," she said.

Smith also expressed gratitude taking part in the pageant.

"When I was little, I was always playing dress up and I got to do it for real," said Smith.

Lovett said she couldn't believe how quickly the  pageant process happened.

"It went by in the blink of an eye but I loved the whole experience," said Lovett.

Meanwhile, from a different perspective, the parade was equally exciting for many who set up along Main Street.

Murray and Rhonda Parsbee, who came from Alberta to enjoy PeachFest and of course, the parade.

"We love it," said Rhonda. "It's a great parade with lots of colourful floats. I especially love the bands."

Murray said they've enjoyed some great entertainment on the main stage at Okanagan Lake Park and added they'll probably return next year.

Three-year-old Maddie Mason was bouncing up and down looking down the route as the parade made its way toward her.

"I like the princesses," said Mason, who was with her parents and grandparents.

"They all look so pretty. I want to do that when I grow up."

PeachFest wraps up Aug. 10 with the Kiddies Day Parade and variety of entertainment in Okanagan Lake Park.
