Highway 6 fatality investigated

A Nakusp woman has been identified as the victim of a single-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 6 Sunday morning.

The accident happened at about 9 a.m., 41 kilometres east of Lumby near Angel Falls.

Two women in an SUV were heading toward Nakusp when the vehicle went into a ditch and rolled.

The 52-year-old driver was killed while a 15-year-old girl, believed to be the woman’s daughter, was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Speed appears to be a factor in this accident,” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

Asked if both women were wearing seatbelts, Molendyk said yes, but he added that the preliminary investigation indicates the driver may have been wearing the seatbelt incorrectly.

No names have been released.

The RCMP and B.C. Coroners Service continue to investigate the accident.
