Mission RCMP are trying to identify a man reported to have had a handgun at McDonalds shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday.

Mounties responded to the restaurant – located at the corner of Park Street and Lougheed Highway – after receiving calls that a man in the parking lot had a weapon.

Sgt. Shaun Wright said police took one male into custody, but determined that he was not the suspect.

Witnesses said the suspect entered the restaurant alone and was confrontational with other patrons.

“Several people observed the suspect repeatedly adjusting a handgun in his waistband and asking, ‘What are you looking at?’” said Wright.

The man left the restaurant and confronted a woman in the parking lot, taking out the handgun and showing it to her. The man then fled north.

A police dog was unable to find the suspect.

Wright said Mounties were soon called to Cedar Street and Seventh Avenue after being notified that the suspect was there. Police found a man matching the general description, but it was not the person they sought.

The man is described as being aboriginal or middle Eastern, in his 20s, with short black hair and wearing a black baseball cap and shirt, baggy blue or black jeans, and ear-bud-style headphones.

Police are now going through surveillance video from the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call 604-826-7161, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
