City imposes water restrictions in Port Alberni
The City of Port Alberni has imposed water restrictions due to the prolonged hot weather the area has experienced. Restrictions went into effect on Friday, Aug. 1.
"Due to low reservoir levels it is necessary to impose restrictions on outdoor water use including garden and lawn watering," city utilities superintendent Brian Mousley said in a press release. These restrictions are at Stage 1.
Outdoor water use is permitted as follows:
Odd numbered addresses may water on Saturdays, Mondays and Thursdays. Even numbered addresses may water on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. All outdoor water use is permitted during the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., and 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Mousley is also asking people to practice water conservation by minimizing water used for non-essentials such as car washing or hosing off driveways, and ensuring that sprinklers are not left running unnecessarily.
These water restrictions are necessary to help the city meet both domestic and emergency water demands. Mousley cautioned that the city will impose further restrictions if the dry weather continues and residents cannot curtail water usage.
"Your co-operation in adhering to these outdoor water use restrictions and reducing water consumption wherever possible will be greatly appreciated," Mousley stated in the release.
