New Nelson rec manager named

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has named a new recreation manager at the Nelson and District Community Complex.

Marty Benson, who previously worked with Surrey Parks and Recreation, will start on September 8.

“Marty will be a valuable addition to the complex team and the regional district,” Joe Chirico, manager of community services said in a news release. “In addition to his experience, he has great enthusiasm for people and recreation.”

In 2011, Bernie Van Hooft resigned from the position, which remained vacant for about a year until Eric Bientjes was hired. However, Bientjes only stayed a few months. Since then, Chirico has been supervising the rec complex in addition to his other duties.
