Thefts from unlocked cars hit Saanich's Broadmead neighbourhood

Saanich police are reminding residents in Broadmead to remember to lock their vehicles and not leaving valuables within view of potential thieves after eight vehicle break-ins occurred overnight.

Homeowners in the 100-block of Carolwood Dr., the 1000-block of Quailwood Pl. and the 4400-block of Emily Carr Dr. were impacted by the break-ins, said Saanich PD Sgt. Steve Eassie.

"In all but one of the thefts, the vehicles had been left unlocked," Eassie said. The eighth vehicle was entered when the thief found its key in an adjacent car, he added.

While wallets, bags and purses were stolen from vehicles, they were all found discarded a short distance away with cash missing.

"It would appear that only unlocked vehicles are being targeted in these events," Eassie said.

Eassie urged vehicle owners to lock their cars and remove all valuables whenever possible.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crimes is asked to call Saanich PD at 250-475-4321 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
