Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man believed connected to a residential break-in last month in South Surrey's Morgan Creek area.

Crime Stoppers released details of the incident, along with a surveillance-camera image, in announcing plans to highlight a 'Crime of the Week' initiative that starts Monday.

According to the report, a senior homeowner was alerted by his wife around 4 p.m. June 9 to a stranger rummaging through their home, located in the 16200-block of Morgan Creek Crescent.

When the intruder bolted, the 77-year-old homeowner gave chase in his truck, then tackled him to the ground.

Unfortunately, the stranger managed to get away. Money, jewelry and house keys were discovered missing from the targeted home.

Police want to find the man whose image was captured by a neighbour's surveillance system. The footage shows a man with close-cropped hair, wearing shorts and a T-shirt and carrying what looks like a blue and black bag.

Anyone with information on the man's identity or location is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502. To remain anonymous – and possibly earn a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the suspect's arrest and charge – call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
