Vernon RCMP continue to investigate boating accident

RCMP continue to investigate a boating accident that sent a teenager to hospital.

On Saturday at about 6:10 p.m., a group of friends were boating on Okanagan Lake and pulling tubers.

The 49-year-old woman operating the boat was making waves in the water when a teenage male, of Vernon, fell off the tube and was subsequently struck by the boat as it circled around.

"The teen was struck by the propeller and suffered multiple life-threatening injuries to several parts of his body," said Corp. Gerry Kovacs, with the RCMP.

"The teen was pulled from the water and transported to Kelowna General Hospital where he remains in critical condition."

Alcohol was not a factor in the incident.

"Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed this incident, to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171," said Kovacs.
