Fire in Glenora home-shop doused by Duncan firefighters
Smoke and water damage, but no injuries, stemmed from a Glenora-area home-shop fire Wednesday morning.
Duncan fire chief Mike McKinlay said 15 firefighters used two pumpers and a water tanker to snuff the 7:30 a.m. blaze in the shop — with an unoccupied suite above — at 5130 Jeffries Road.
Cause of the fire, believed to have started in the shop, was still under investigation by McKinlay.
"The landlord called it in after hearing the smoke alarm," he said, stressing the alarm's crucial role.
"It was in an unorganized (rural) area, so we had to shuttle water in.
"The closest water tank was at Glenora Hall."
Lack of hydrants could have spelled a total loss if Duncan hall hadn't responded quickly, with the right gear, McKinlay signaled.
The structure was insured, he noted.
