UPDATED 4:15 P.M. The highway is now open to traffic in both directions. The pedestrian was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with undetermined injuries.

Vernon RCMP are investigating a mid-day accident involving a tractor trailer unit and a pedestrian on Highway 97 on Vernon's Hospital Hill.

At around 12:40 p.m., a man was reportedly struck on the highway by a tractor-trailer unit.

Vernon RCMP said the man was injured but was conscious at the scene.

As of 2:35 p.m., northbound traffic on Highway 97 was closed south of the intersection with 19th Avenue. The northbound lanes are expected to reopen at around 5 p.m., according to Drive B.C.
