Man suffered crushed-leg injury during planer-mill accident
A man who suffered a serious leg injury during last Thursday's planer-mill accident in Chemainus is unlikely to leave hospital any time soon,
A WorkSafeBC staffer told the News Leader Pictorial the unidentified Centurion Lumber Manufacturing worker suffered a crushed-leg injury, and was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital.
"A worker's leg was crushed when it was pulled into the feed rollers of the planer," said Alexandra Skinner-Reynolds.
"Release from hospital soon is unlikely."
WorkSafeBC is investigating the accident's exact details, with a report due in a number of months.
Cpl. Jon Stuart of the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP confirmed on scene the man ,in his mid- to late-50s, was seriously injured at 11:33 a.m. June 5 in the firm's mill at 3070 Henry Road, just off the Island Highway.
WorkSafeBC staff will determine what, if any, violations occurred under B.C.'s occupational health-and-safety regulations.
