New West cop taken to hospital following collision

A New Westminster police officer assigned to the regional auto crime team was injured in a collision in Surrey on Thursday.

The NWPD said the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT) was investigating a stolen motor vehicle when a collision occurred. The New West officer seconded to IMPACT as an investigator sustained a leg injury and was taken to hospital.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and charges are pending. While IMPACT will continue with the stolen vehicle investigation, the collision will be handled by Surrey RCMP's traffic division.
