Wayward Pines crew returning to Agassiz to film again
Wayward Pines has not finished filming, and the downtown Agassiz television filming set will remain in place until after Canada Day.
That news was announced earlier this week, when location manager for WWP Productions, David Tamkin, placed an ad in this newspaper detailing their planned filming activities and teardown schedule.
They will require one to two more days of filming to complete the series, and that can't happen until the actors' schedules allows. That will be the week of June 23-27, Tamkin said.
The television series has been in production since the fall of 2013, with all of the outdoor scenes being shot on the commercial portion of Pioneer Avenue in Agassiz. On the side of the street which houses Pioneer Park, a full facade of the fictional town of Wayward Pines was built. On the side with businesses, temporary facade changes were added to storefronts. Originally, the film company's plan was to have the set removed in May, with a full restoration of the park completed before the summer.
However, there was also a caveat that the set would not be removed until they had received final approval from the studio. The re-filming will take place the week of June 23 to 27, and they will start to tear down the set on July 2. That means the set will remain in place during Canada Day celebrations, typically a busy day in the park with activities throughout the day.
Kerry Hilts, District of Kent's community services director, said that the Canada Day celebrations will go ahead. This year, the celebration will more of street party, he added.
Wayward Pines has brought a long list of well-known actors and directors to Agassiz over the past several months. The series stars Matt Dillon, and features Juliette Lewis, Terrence Howard, Carla Gugino, Shannyn Sossamon and Melissa Leo, most of who have been seen on set in Agassiz. Director M. Night Shyamalan also visited Agassiz to help scout out the area and direct the first episode. The series was created by Chad Hodge and based on novels written by Blake Crouch.
More information regarding specific timing for road closures will be available closer to the time of filming.
