String of suspicious fires prompt Victoria police plea

A spate of suspected arsons in Victoria is compelling the Victoria Police Department to reach out for help solving the cases.

Nearly a dozen suspicious fires have been reported in Victoria since mid-April, said VicPD spokesman Bowen Osoko. (Mobile users click here for interactive map.)

While VicPD officers are already looking into persons of interest, police need help gathering more evidence.

“We are concerned about the increase of these suspicious fires, but at this time it’s unclear if they are related,” said VicPD Det./Sgt. Mike Johnston. “Our concern is that they may be, and we’re hoping members of the public can help us in identifying those responsible.”

Anyone with information on any of the fires is asked to call the VicPD tip line at 250-995-7444.
