Pier Park picks up B.C. Parks award
Westminster Pier Park (WPP) has picked up its eighth award since it opened almost two years ago.
The latest comes from the British Columbia Parks and Recreation Association giving WPP its Parks and Open Spaces award. Key design elements such as accessibility, environmental protection and community benefits are taken into account when giving out the award.
Mayor Wayne Wright said he's proud the park along the Fraser River has been recognized again for its innovation and beauty.
"It's rewarding to see visitors and residents alike enjoying the park and seeing how it has enhanced livability in our downtown," said Wright.
City council recently approved plans for the undeveloped Timber Wharf section at the east end of the park including adding an urban beach, path and activity area.
Construction has already begun on a pedestrian overpass connecting the Front Street Parkade at the foot of Fourth Street with the park.
