Grand Forks Fall Fair back on UPDATED

It’s been a roller coast week for the Grand Forks and District Fall Fair society. On Thursday, a tearful Kelly McIver, secretary/treasurer, and husband Jamie McIver, president, came to the Gazette and announced the fall fair was cancelled due to a lack of volunteers.
However, a last minute rescue from the River Valley Community Church with volunteers has saved the fair and it’s on again.
“One of the members (of the church) approached Pastor Gabe and said, ‘The fall fair isn’t happening this year. They don’t have enough volunteers,’ and the pastor said, ‘Wow. No. Let’s do it.’ So he contacted me on Saturday and said they would get the congregation and help us do it,” said Kelly McIver. “It’s just fabulous. We’re very happy. I just can’t say enough about the River Valley Church.”
The fall fair will be on from Aug. 22-24 at Dick Bartlett Park.
McIver said the church members will be helping in many different capacities throughout the weekend with set up and with events. She does add that they would still love to have other volunteers step up.
“We’d love to have as many people as we can get,” said McIver. “There’s lots to do. More people means shorter shifts.”
Despite cancelling, McIver said they were able to re-book all the events and acts. “Everybody’s back!” she said.
Highlights for the fair include musical entertainers Undercover on Friday night, rising country star Lisa Nicole on Saturday night, and an Alan Jackson impersonator called Almost Alan.
“We also have Uncle Chris the Clown coming and a magician scientist coming from Vancouver,” said McIver. “We’ve got zucchini races and Survivor. We’re working with the ATV club. They’d like to be a part of it. We’ve got RC (remote control) racing going on this year which is new.”
There will be lots of fun events for both children and adults, said McIver. “We’ll have the 4H club with dog agility, a petting zoo, exotic reptiles show, and a mechanical bull.”
