'Gossip Girl'-ish blog site Vancouver Taddler shut down, being investigated
Reports say Vancouver police are investigating a B.C. blog called Vancouver Taddler, which published secretive text messages and photos of a sexual nature. The blog, similar to the Gossip Girl site in the hit CW show and the series of books by author Cecily von Ziegaser, asked others to email and send in "all the scandalous secrets for the highest revenge," according to CTV News.
Vancouver Taddler started four days ago. It has since been deleted from its Tumblr address.
According to Crofton House head Pat Dawson, the blog has been traced back to a Grade 8 student at the all-girls school.
"I have just had confirmation that she was involved and that her parents are aware," Dawson told the TV network. "The school will definitely take measures. We're still learning (the details) but this is something the school takes very seriously."
"While the Internet can offer incredible possibilities for kids, there are risks," he said. "Everyone needs to have a better understanding of how to use technology in a responsible manner. Safety and privacy issues are always a concern and can potentially become criminal in nature.
"Any sexual picture of people under the age of 18 can fall under the definition of child pornography... It is a criminal offence to distribute or share these images."
Earlier this year, a 17-year-old Victoria-area student was convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography, after texting naked photos of another girl – underage – to her boyfriend and to the victim.
