AV News writers up for awards

Alberni Valley News writers have been nominated for a pair of Ma Murray Awards by the B.C. Yukon Community Newspaper Association.

Reporter Christopher Sun, who spent the summer with the News, is nominated for the John Collison Investigative Journalism Award for his story, SD70 drowning in water taxi expenses.

Reporter/photographer Wawmeesh G. Hamilton is nominated for the Feature Photo Award: Colour, for his picture Seeing With Clarity, accompanying a story about Valley Vision Optical staff who travelled to Nicaragua on a humanitarian mission.

Both awards are for newspapers with circulations under 25,000.

The annual awards recognize excellence in all aspects of the newspaper industry, including reporting, editing, photography, advertising, production and more.
