The Prince Rupert Fire Rescue Department responded to a fire at old Commercial Pub and Grill on 1st Avenue West shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday evening.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

As smoke billowed from the building, Prince Rupert RCMP blocked off access to the area while firefighters tried to contain the flames inside by hosing water into a second story window at the back of the former Commercial Pub and Grill.

The March 2 blaze comes after a number of unexplained fires occurred at the former pub between June 2012 to March 2013, which were all started outside of the building.
