Have your say on the future of the Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex
Residents will have the opportunity to have their say on the future of the Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex.
Council and the city have been discussing the possibility of replacing the existing facility and integrating a mix of commercial and residential uses on the site.
A website has been launched (portcoquitlam.ca/recplan) and interactive booths will be popping at various city facilities that will give people an opportunity to provide feedback on the future of the property.
"In the budget survey we conducted earlier this year, 76% of community members indicated support for the project," said PoCo Mayor Greg Moore. "Now we need to understand what people want to see in a community recreation complex. We see this as an opportunity to create a vibrant community hub where people can connect, play and use a variety of service and amenities."
While still in the early planning stages, initial studies suggest that the project could include replacing the arenas, the senior's centre, the youth centre and the library. The city hopes to add ice capacity, a fitness centre, a pool and a new multi-purpose space to the site.
"We are committed to engaging with the public throughout all phases of the project," said Coun. Michael Wright, chair of the community recreation complex project advisory group. "This is an exciting opportunity for the community to help shape the development of a recreation complex they will use and enjoy for many years to come."
