Smithers man dies after being stabbed Friday night

A 26-year-old Smithers man is dead from stab wounds suffered while visiting an apartment in the 1500 block of Main Street Friday night at around 11:30.

RCMP were called to a report of a stabbing in an apartment and arrived on scene to find the man in medical distress. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Bulkley Valley District Hospital.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charges are being recommended to Crown Counsel.

North District Major Crime Unit and the Smithers RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident.
