CRTV members will get another chance in three weeks to revisit a hijacked vote to sell the co-op.
At a special meeting last Wednesday, late in the evening a few people who stayed until after 11 p.m. were able to pass a motion to seal the ballot boxes and destroy all ballots collected. The motion was made by Philip Venoit, business manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 230, which represents CRTV's unionized employees. Venoit is not a CRTV member but was acting as another member's proxy.
Although the motion was passed, CRTV's board of directors has decided to continue the meeting at the end of the month, again in Strathcona Gardens.
"The ballots have not been destroyed and are being held by Valiant Trust," said a news release Monday from the board. "After careful deliberation, the board has decided to reconvene the meeting to be fair to all of the members who cast their votes. The meeting will reconvene at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Rod Brind’Amour Arena in Strathcona Gardens."
On Friday CRTV will be running an official notice of the upcoming meeting with more details in both local newspapers.
