Phone service being interrupted in Lax Kw'alaams as Telus plans upgrades

TELUS will be upgrading its telecommunications equipment serving Port Simpson next week to improve service reliability.

It is anticipated the work will be completed before January 10, when weather permits crews to land and safely upgrade the equipment. The service interruption is expected to last a maximum of two hours once crews access the site. All calling to and from Port Simpson from a landline or mobile device, including all calls to 911, will be briefly unavailable to allow TELUS crews to complete the required work.

Local emergency operations personnel have been notified and are taking the appropriate measures.

Due to the remote location of the site and recent extreme weather conditions, crews will monitor local weather reports and attempt to helicopter to the site when it is safe.
