A joint effort by Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, and the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s eHealth Strategy Office hopes to put its finger on the pulse of the public’s health status and healthy life choices with “My Health My Community” a new web-based health and wellness survey.

Health and well-being are closely linked to what we eat, where we live, and what we do, says Dr. Michelle Murti, Medical Health Officer with Fraser Health. The survey is aimed at helping the public understand exactly how these factors impact one another.

“People take the My Health My Community Survey for many reasons, but they all focus on building a healthier future,” said Beatrice Hearnandez who is one of the surveyors helping residents complete these surveys.

Over the past few weeks, Hernandez has been across the Fraser Region, from Delta to Chilliwack, helping people complete the survey, and has been amazed at the positive response.

“Many older people say that they are doing the survey so that their children and grandchildren can have a healthier future,” says Hernandez.

The survey is valuable because it will enable local health authorities to share the most up-to-date community health and lifestyle information with local governments, health care planners and community stakeholders and help them shape policies, programs and community services that lead to better health” says Dr. Murti.

“My Health My Community is an opportunity for us to learn how our lifestyles, our neighbourhoods and our environment all come together to affect overall health and well-being,” she said. To take the My Health My Community survey, visit
