Renewed search for suspected car thief turns up empty
An all-day search on Saturday for a suspected car thief who fled from police turned up no leads, RCMP say.
Revelstoke RCMP, RCMP Air Services, and Revelstoke Search and Rescue spent all day Saturday searching the area around 12 Mile looking for a man who fled from police in a stolen vehicle early on Thursday, Dec. 19.
"They covered quite a bit of area," said Cpl. Thomas Blakney of the Revelstoke RCMP.
He said at this point they don't know where the man ended up and they are concerned for his well-being.
"It's an unknown, it's a strange one. I was there that night, it was cold," he said. "Do you have am missing person? Do you have a deceased person? Do you issue warrants for his arrest? At this point, that's what we've done, we've filled out the paper work to issue a warrant for his arrest."
The incident began on Dec. 19 shortly after 5 a.m., when police made a road stop on a suspicious vehicle. The suspect fled south down Airport Way, crashing his car at the end of a logging road near the 12 Mile flats.
RCMP searched the area that day, arresting the man's companion, a 22-year-old female. She has been charged with several property offences.
The RCMP are searching for Joshua Jeffs, 23. He is described as being of Native heritage, 5'11", 160 pounds, with short brown hair and brown eyes. He has a scar below his left eye, several tattoos on his arms, and he was wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans.
The vehicle, a white Hyundai Senata, was stolen from a home in Calgary sometime late in the evening of Dec. 18.
