Horsing around for the holidays

The Nelson and District Riding Club was in the Christmas spirit this past week.

The Miniature Horsemanship Program of the Nelson 4H Club (including leader Besty Nasmyth; 4H participants Triona Simpson, Margaret and Emily Smith and Eli Southam; and their horses Flash, Prince, Buddy and Sky) donned Santa hats and antlers trip to bring some cheer to Jubilee Manor residents and staff. The group sang Christmas carols were rewarded with hot cocoa for the humans and apples for the horses.

Later in the week, the riding club hosted its second annual Family Christmas Celebration. There was a roaring bonfire, Christmas music, hot chocolate, delectable homemade goodies — and Santa even made an appearance, arriving in style by horse-drawn sleight. The event raised $145 and canned goods for the Nelson Food Cupboard.
