Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Society enter launch economic development corporation with purchase of Azalea Gardens
The Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Society is entering the economic development business, and has already made its first major purchase.
On Dec. 20, the group announced it had purchased the land, building and greenhouses of the former Azalea Gardens site. The business will be rebranded as Rupert Lawn & Garden, and the society said it has big plans for the business.
"We are very excited about this opportunity to create meaningful employment in Prince Rupert," said Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Society president Greg Grayson, noting Seal Cove residents can expect to see a lot of activity over the winter in preparation for a spring opening.
"Heading into the new year, we look forward to offering high quality lawn and garden care services to all of Prince Rupert."
The business will fall under the umbrella of the Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Economic Development Corporation, which was incorporated with the purchase of the business, and Grayson said it may the first of many things to come given what is happening in the region.
"There are lots of options for us to grow this business in the coming year."
