Burnaby couple charged in North Van fraud case
A Burnaby couple has been charged in connection with a fraud investigation, say North Vancouver RCMP.
The detachment's economic crime unit began investigating in November 2009 after being contacted by the owners of a North Vancouver business, Unique Real Estate Accommodations Inc.
The owners of the real estate rental and property management company alleged that the previous financial controller had misappropriated a large sum of money. North Van RCMP focused their investigation on the former controller, who had worked at the company from May 2007 to November 2009, and his wife, who had also worked there as an accounting assistant during the same period.
The lengthy police investigation determined the total loss to the company is about $360,000.
On Dec. 17, the suspects were arrested without incident in Burnaby.
Arthur Wong, 50, is charged with fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000, while Jessie Wong, 44, is charged with theft over $5,000. Both are Burnaby residents.
The suspects were released from custody on $50,000 bail, and ordered to surrender their passports, have no contact with the employees of the company, and not be employed in a job that requires them to handle any money, in any form, that is not their own.
