Allegedly drunk Okanagan driver kept rolling on the rim

A Summerland woman, 49, is facing potential impaired driving charges after a vehicle lost its rear tire and rim Sunday night.

At 5:45 pm, Sunday night, an off-duty RCMP officer spotted a possible impaired driver northbound on Highway 97 from Summerland, said Const. Kris Clark in a press release.

"A brown Kia Sorrento was observed to be all over the road and appeared to be losing a tire. Uniformed members of the West Kelowna RCMP intercepted the vehicle at Trepanier Bench Road and attempted to initiate a vehicle stop," he said.

"The Kia continued towards West Kelowna, and was observed to nearly drive into the ditch several times. The SUV lost its right rear tire, followed by the rim, and eventually spun out of control near Brown Road. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Kelowna Detachment where she provided breath samples in excess of four times the legal limit."

Despite the driving behaviour that police observed and the damage to the suspect vehicle, no one was injured.

The 49 year old Summerland woman was issued a 24 hour Driving Prohibition, an Administrative Driving Prohibition and her vehicle was impounded. She faces potential charges of Impaired Driving, Drive While Over .08, and Flight From Police. She was released on a Promise to Appear for Court at a later date.
