Canuck Place receives $150,000 donation
Representatives from Brookside-Hershey Canada's Abbotsford plant presented a $150,000 cheque to Canuck Place Children's Hospice on Thursday morning.
The cheque represents an immediate donation of $100,000, plus an additional $50,000 that the company has committed to the Abbotsford hospice in the next 18 months.
Some of the funds – $6,000 – were raised by employees during a Halloween event, and the organization was also a sponsor of the Canuck Place Creative Challenge in September.
Presenting the cheque to Canuck Place staff Debbie Tonn, Jacky Eames and Jennifer Polci were Abbotsford plant manager Brad Friesen and administration assistant Liza Williams.
Canuck Place is currently under construction on Marshall Road as part of the Dave Lede Campus of Care adjacent to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
It will provide palliative care to children with life-threatening illnesses, as well as respite and family support, pain and symptom management, grief and loss counselling, and end-of-life care.
The Abbotsford site will begin offering on-site services in the new year, gradually building up to its full complement of programs.
The Campus of Care also includes Matthew's House, a respite facility for children with severe disabilities that opened last month, and the Abbotsford Hospice Society's Holmberg House, an adult hospice expected to open late next year.
