Court adjourns Regional District of North Okanagan sentencing
It will likely be sometime in 2014 before the Regional District of North Okanagan learns its fate in regards to a case of water contamination.
The regional district was slated to be sentenced Wednesday in Vernon Provincial Court after being found guilty in September of four charges in connection with the contamination of the Antwerp Springs water system in Coldstream in January 2012.
However, Crown lawyer Joel Gold is tied up with an Interior murder case, so he was unable to attend Wednesday.
By mutual consent with defence lawyer Robert Bruneau, and approved by Judge Mayland McKimm, the matter has been adjourned to Dec. 18 to fix a new date for sentencing.
McKimm delayed sentencing in October after informing the lawyers he was greatly concerned about comments made to CBC Radio by a person McKimm believed to be the chairperson of the regional district in an interview reacting to the guilty charges.
