Silver Star Mountain Resort’s annual Light Up event Saturday brightened the spirits of many, especially the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, which received a $25,200 cheque for the Foundation’s annual Light a Bulb Campaign.

Funds were raised in November through an exclusive promotion selling discounted lift tickets for the resort’s opening weekend.

“Our entire team embraced this initiative. We all recognize the hospital is a vital element of our community,” said Silver Star general manager Michael Sherwood. “This unique ticket campaign was our opportunity to give back to Vernon – all with the help of our guests – with 100 per cent of ticket sale proceeds going directly to the foundation.”

This year’s Light a Bulb is supporting the Foundation’s Building a Tower of Care Campaign, Phase II’ The foundation is raising $2.5 million over the next three years to equip the 6th and 7th floors of Polson Tower with 60 patient rooms and lifesaving medical equipment.

“We appreciate the generosity of Silver Star and the great community support received for this special event,” said campaign co-chairperson Richard Finn.

Cooper’s Foods, Save-On-Foods and Superstore also showed their community spirit, partnering as ticket sales locations for the fundraising initiative.

“In addition to helping us reach our $250,000 goal for Light a Bulb, we also made a lot of new friends through our association with Silver Star and event supporters,” said Finn.
