Blasting likely cause of massive Sahtlam boom

Although Cowichan cops came out empty-handed in their investigation into Friday's big bang heard in the Sahtlam area, they think they have a theory.

"Our investigation did not reveal anything. It appears though that (Island Pacific Logging) was doing blasting at the time," stated North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Cpl. Jon Stuart in an email regarding the calls cops received Friday around 10:50 a.m. resulting from what sounded like a explosion.

One caller, Cowichan Lake Road area resident Chris Davies was quite freaked about what he described "a massive explosion."

"I honestly thought a plane had come down," Davies said on Monday.
