VIDEO: Canadian Coast Guard prepares for Zalinski oil recovery
The Canadian Coast Guard has laid the groundwork for a $50 million recovery mission of Bunker C oil and other hazardous materials from the U.S.S. Brigadier General M.G. Zalinski, which ran aground during a storm on route to Alaska in 1946.
The vessel came to rest upside down on a steep underwater drop off near the shore of Hartley Bay about 100 kilometres from Prince Rupert.
