Prolific property offender prowls Saanich neighbourhood
A woman known for break-and-enters and property crimes was nabbed by police this morning in an under-construction home in Saanich.
As Saanich police searched a home in the 3900 block of Prestwood Dr. around 11 a.m. after receiving calls from an alarm company, a 23-year-old woman exited the building empty handed and was immediately detained.
In two separate incidents earlier today, residents in the Quadra-Reynolds school area had called police about a young woman on their property. At 6 a.m. a resident found a woman in their backyard, confronted her and told her to leave. Around 7:30 a.m. another resident found a woman walking out of their backyard – she claimed to be lost.
Saanich police Sgt. Steve Eassie said the woman is well known to police officers across Greater Victoria for property offences and break-ins. She was on court conditions for a previous break-and-enter when she was arrested this morning.
Saanich police are recommending a relatively minor charge of unlawfully being in a dwelling house, and not break-and-enter, as there was no signs of forced entry into the home.
