Forum to focus on domestic violence
An upcoming forum on domestic violence on Oct. 24 is geared to raising awareness and sharing information.
The forum is a first for Chilliwack as part of the month-long Purple Light Nights campaign, in cooperation with the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment RCMP and many community partners.
It's a free event and all members of the public are encouraged to attend.
“Through education and awareness we can diminish the negative effects of domestic violence in our communities, and ensure the community is aware of resources available to help,” said Cpl. Harinder Kheleh, of the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Section, one of the event organizers.
The first hour will have presentations by community partners including including police, Crown counsel, MCFD, Ann Davis Transition Society and Specialized Victim Services of Chilliwack Community Services.
"The purpose of the forum is to educate the community as to what resources are available for someone who may be a victim of violence, or knows someone who is," said RCMP Cpl. Len vanNieuwenhuizen.
In the second hour these community partners will individually make themselves available for questions and to supply information to community members.
The forum is Oct. 24 at Chilliwack City hall in council chambers, 8550 Young Road, from 7 pm until 9 pm.
