Construction values climb in Terrace, BC
A report issued at the Oct. 8 council meeting shows construction has climbed year to date when compared to the same period in 2012.
“Contractors are looking for some good weather for the fall to help with their projects under construction,” said senior building inspector Bruce Miller in the report to council.
The year-to-date value of the development is currently $16,042,800 compared to $12,282,540 by October of last year.
The summer saw “a very good balance between commercial and residential permits being issued. The summer is proving to be very busy as expected for the construction market in Terrace,” said Miller.
September actually saw a decrease compared to 2012 but this hasn't effected the overall upward trend.
The upward trend in construction mirrors climbing airport traffic and rising employment numbers, all signs that the economy is chugging along with several major modernization projects in full swing in the area including the Northwest Transmission Line and Rio Tinto Alcan's Kitimat Modernization Project.
In August, 22 business permits were approved by the city compared to 14 during the same month in 2012. The total value of these constructions was $3,328,500 compared to $737,500.
New business permits were issued in August to The Naughty Corner, Chill Out Bath and Body, Happy Time Daycare, Just Foam It, Comtek security Solutions Ltd, Artitectura Design and Construction.
In September of this year, the construction value was $428,700 compared to $847,200 in September 2012
Business permits were given out to Fruit Flexy's Okanagan Fresh, ABC's and 123's Childcare, Dog Days, Storey's Excavating, Summit Helicopters, Okanagan Gold, Hype 11 Tea Company, Canada Safeway LTD, Interlock Industries (BC) LTD, Tiny Steps.
