Semifinal spot secured in Aviva competition by Ecole Mount Prevost
Ecole Mount Prevost's unique playground upgrade and community project has made it into the semifinals of the Aviva Community Fund competition.
Prevost finished among the leaders in on-line voting for the first qualifying run.
"This means we get to bypass voting qualifying rounds two and three, each two weeks long, and go directly to the final voting round from Dec. 2 to 11,'' explained Mona Kaiser of the Ecole Mount Prevost Parent Advisory Council.
"In this final voting round, 90 projects (30 large, 30 medium and 30 small) will be competing for 30 finalists spots (10 large, 10 medium, 10 small). For us, that means we'll be competing against 29 other ideas for 10 finalist spots.''
Prevost is placed in the large category and is seeking the awarding of funds for a project that incorporates the community into utilizing the school's large field space more efficiently.
All 30 finalists receive $5,000 and an Aviva panel determines how to divide up the remaining $1 million among the finalists.
"Given that we have an idea that meets all the criteria the Aviva judges are looking for, we feel that if we can make it through the semifinals to the finals, we have a pretty good chance of making it right to the top,'' Kaiser indicated.
The semifinals are when the call will go out again for on-line voting support Dec. 2 to 11.
