A DIRT bike ride turned out to be an expensive venture for a Thornhill man after he was arrested Saturday on Old Lakelse Lake Drive.
A highway patrol officer stopped the 22-year-old around 11:30 a.m. and found him to be slightly impaired, in possession of a small quantity of marijuana, and driving without a licence.
He was issued violation tickets totalling $736 for driving with no insurance and without a licence. He was also given a 24 hour driving suspension and the dirt bike was impounded, the cost of which will also be paid by the driver.
In addition to the nearly $1,000 the man will have to pay as a result of the excursion, police say he will likely have some difficulty obtaining a driver's licence in the future.
Police are reminding the public to only operate off-road vehicles in safe and legal areas and to keep them off public highways.
