Four-vehicle crash shuts down Malahat Monday
A vehicle stolen from Ladysmith caused a four-vehicle collision Monday morning (Sept. 16) on the Trans-Canada Highway near Goldstream Park, shutting the highway down for about an hour.
The Trans-Canada Highway was shut down in both directions for about an hour Monday morning after a four-vehicle collision near Finlayson Arm Rd. at 9:22 a.m.
A vehicle travelling southbound on the highway was driving erratically. It crossed over the centre line of the highway and collided head on with another vehicle. Two other vehicles ended up becoming involved.
Three people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. West Shore RCMP say speed may well have been a factor in the crash.
The highway was shut down completely for about one hour before reopening with one lane of traffic. It was opened fully about half an hour later.
At about 12:19 p.m. Ladysmith RCMP received a call about a stolen vehicle. Police figured out the vehicle stolen in Ladysmith was the same one that caused the highway crash.
A man was arrested yesterday and is now facing charges of theft over $5,000, for the theft of the car. He appeared in Western Communities Courthouse the following morning. Under the Motor Vehicle Act the man was also issued a ticket for driving without a licence, failing to keep right and driving without due care and attention.
