Langley woman killed in ATV accident

An all-terrain vehicle accident in Hope has left one woman dead.

Emergency responders were called out Saturday night to a spot on Huckleberry Road, in the Sunshine Valley area of Hope.

A 27-year-old Langley woman and 37-year-old Surrey man were riding the ATV when they ran into a reflective cable that was strung across a gravel road between two cement barriers. No one saw the collision happen, but witnesses said they heard a loud bang before seeing the ATV, with no one aboard, roll into the bushes.

An off-duty firefighter was one of the first to find the passengers, but it was too late for the woman.

The man was taken to a Lower Mainland hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This was one of many ATV accidents over the Canada Day long weekend, prompting RCMP Cst. Cynthia Kershaw to issue a warning.

“ATV’s need to be operated with extreme caution and awareness of the surrounding area, especially when driven at night,” she stressed.

The investigation is ongoing.
