Blog: The Top 7 CBC Hockey Night in Canada Intro Montages

On Wednesday night, Ottawa – Canada's lone remaining team in these 2013 NHL playoffs – was slaughtered at the hands of the probably mightier and far more star-studded Pittsburgh Penguins. 9-3, when all was said and done, and the Senators are only one loss from joining the six other franchise based above the 49th.

Before the game, Hockey Night in Canada treated its viewers to yet another incredible opening montage (*video above). Or, is it a music video? We don't know. We've never known. But, it was enough to make The Score post about it on Facebook, and it's enough to make anyone recognize just how much The Corporation has mastered the art of the intro.

In no particular order, here are seven of the best Hockey Night in Canada montages of all-time, or at least from recent memory:

(*I could have made it 10, I guess, but I wanted only the best and I only found seven worthy enough to be grouped together.)

------------------------------------------------------------

"My Kind of Town"

Sinatra. Chicago. Bobby Hull and Patrick Kane, and even the various eras of the Philadelphia Flyers. It's perfection.

------------------------------------------------------------

"Rolling in the Deep"

Canucks fans still cry when they hear this Adele song...

------------------------------------------------------------

"Sail"

Vancouver v. Toronto is one of the better yearly home-and-home series in the NHL, and the CBC's history of famously favouring the Buds over every other team in the NHL adds a bit of tension to it, too.

------------------------------------------------------------

"All These Things That I've Done"

It's not The Killers' song that makes it, but the flashbacks from Dustin Brown and Jonathan Quick to Wayne Gretzky and Kelly Hrudey are incredible, especially since the Kings went on to win their first Stanley Cup six games later.

------------------------------------------------------------

"Halloween"

Not even Ron MacLean's voice can ruin how cool this one is...

------------------------------------------------------------

"2013"

Apparently, not everyone knew how good the CBC was at this stuff before this year's Playoffs, because this thing was all over Facebook on May 1.

The song is 'Baba O'Reily' by the way.

------------------------------------------------------------

"Dream On"

CBC welcomed the NHL's 60th season – also the shortened one we're still concluding – with Aerosmith's greatest lyrical epic.
